In 2006 Ben began to train and compete full time to pursue his dream of representing Team GB at World and Olympic level. Two years later Ben joined the UKSport funded World Class Performance Programme. Ben stayed part of this programme until its close in the winter of 2016, after UKSport’s funding for British Fencing ended. Following this, Ben continued to compete up until his retirement at the Commonwealth Championships in the summer of 2022. During Ben’s fencing career he represented GB at three Senior European Championships, three Senior World Championships, one European Games, and travelled to the Rio Olympic Games as a training partner.

During this time Ben has also managed a part time coaching career which began in 2013 and has been a part of FCL since its birth in 2015, both as a fencer and coach. Ben’s focus at the club has been on youth development from U12’s right through to U17 and U20. Ben has also been involved in coaching wheelchair fencing where he attended the Tokyo Paralympic Games as ParalympicsGB support coach.
