Fencing is unique and fun. At FCL, I feel as though I’m always learning the technical and the tactical in the friendliest kind of atmosphere where we focus on what we have to do to improve. The club has really opened my eyes to the processes that can help me develop and progress. Me and my coach talk through my short-term goals and my long-term ones. It’s not about achieving everything at once, but about accomplishing things bit-by-bit; that’s how to build the little gains and make the big wins happen.

Performing well does motivate me. Trophies and medals certainly spur me on but when I don’t do as well, I just pick myself up and battle on. Seeing the success of my clubmates can be as motivating as anything – it makes me want to do better. We’re normally all there cheering each other on at a competition. We’re used to training properly, training together and training to push ourselves to the max. That’s definitely the best thing about FCL – the sense of team spirit which inspires everyone to make the most of every moment.
